Understanding Adoption Options: A Guide

Facing an unplanned pregnancy can bring many emotions—uncertainty, fear, love, and hope. If you’re considering adoption, know that you’re not alone and that you have choices. Adoption is a deeply personal and courageous decision, and understanding your options can help you feel confident and cared for during this time.

At our center, we’re here to walk alongside you, without pressure or judgment, and ensure you have all the information you need.

What Is Adoption?

Adoption is a loving plan where you can choose a family to raise your child when you feel you’re not ready or able to parent right now. It does not mean giving up—it means making a thoughtful decision with your child’s future in mind.

Three Types of Adoption Plans

You are in control of what the adoption looks like. There are three main types of adoption plans:

1. Open Adoption

  • You choose the adoptive family.
  • You can maintain contact—updates, photos, visits, or a relationship over time.
  • Allows your child to know their story and stay connected.

2. Semi-Open Adoption

  • Communication is shared through an agency or attorney.
  • You may receive letters, photos, or updates while keeping personal details private.
  • Offers a balance of connection and privacy.

3. Closed Adoption

  • No direct contact with the adoptive family.
  • Records are sealed, and identities are kept confidential.
  • Some women prefer this option for privacy and emotional closure.

Your Rights in the Adoption Process

As the birth mother, you have rights every step of the way:

You choose the family (if you wish).
You create a birth plan for delivery and hospital stay.
You can change your mind any time before legal papers are signed.
You can receive counseling and support before and after adoption.

Choosing an Adoptive Family

Adoptive families go through thorough background checks, home studies, and training. You can review profiles and choose based on what matters most to you—values, lifestyle, faith, siblings, location, and more.

Many women find peace knowing they chose a family who will love and cherish their child.

Emotional Support and Counseling

Adoption can bring grief and healing, all at once. It’s okay to have complex feelings. Our center offers confidential counseling and support to walk with you before, during, and after your decision—no matter what you choose.

You Are Not Alone

Considering adoption doesn’t mean you don’t love your child—it means you want the very best for them. You deserve support, compassion, and the freedom to make the decision that’s right for you.

Whether you’re still exploring options or ready to talk with an adoption specialist, we’re here to help you—without pressure.
